“Ghent’s Family Legacy & Heritage”
The Steel Guitar was first introduced to the House of God Church by Aubrey’s uncle, Willie Eason, during the 1940′s. He was referred to as ‘Little Willie and his Talking Guitar.’ Willie taught Aubrey’s father Henry Nelson, who played for more than 50 years in the church and around the United States. He performed with top gospel greats such as Rosetta Thorpe and Mahalia Jackson. Aubrey was greatly influenced by his uncle and father and began learning the instrument at age six and playing for church services at age nine. He has continued his great family legacy and heritage for forty nine years. He is named and awarded as “Master of the Lap Steel Guitar” by the State of Florida’s Folklore Department and later named “Most Outstanding Lap Steel Guitarist of the Year 2008″ (LBM).
